Question 1995 Z28 Seedometer

My 95 Z28's speedometer only reads to 110-115 MPH. which is odd cause it should have the 150 MPH guage. just curious on why this is. My thoughts are because it has an auto transmission maybe.. but im not 100% sure........
VIN- 2G1FP22P2S2140802

Re: 1995 Z28 Seedometer

The base V8 cars with automatic trans came with 2.73:1 (RPO "GU2") rear axle, and non Z-rated tires. The shift indicator does not have "1", and the top speed is limited to 108 - 118 MPH depending on year. Those cars got the 115 MPH speedo.

There was a high performance axle option ("GU5") that got you "1" on the shift indicator, and 3.23:1 rear axle. Option "QLC" got you Z-rated tires, no speed limiter (actually it's entered as "255" in the PCM) and the 150 MPH speedo.

The VIN decoder you linked is "generic" and can't be specific to your car, because it indicates a 3.42:1 rear axle, and they only came with the manual trans (T56) cars.

Try this source - there is a fee - but it is accurate. Just don't put a lot of faith in the "rarity" statement:

Comprehensive Chevrolet VIN Decoder

You can also look for the codes on the Service Parts tag in the glove box, or on the end of the driver's door.

This will give some insight to the meaning of the 3-character codes on the service parts tag:

Chevy Camaro RPO Codes

The compnine site is even more detailed, with a breakdown of the codes to the level of the individual coil springs selected for each corner of the suspension.

The 4th Gen FAQ can also provide some answers:

Re: 1995 Z28 Seedometer

sorry for a late response. on my shift box from bottom up is 1-2-D-over drive-N-R-P
I will look for other codes where you said to look.
