1979 Z28 heater core replacement?

I havent had a heat for 5 years since my heater core blew up... i live in michigan so the spring and fall get a little chilly. i am curious to know how similar replacing the heater core is to that in a 1990s Z28... i have read the threads about replacing heater cores in newer Zs but just wondered how easy it was to do in an older model? any help is greatly appreciated! thanks!

I'm not sure if I can say it's easy, but I was lazy and replaced mine while I had the engine and trans out during the swap. And still had to remove the passenger side inner fenderwell to get to the lower heather hose.

I found removing the airbox on the inside the biggest hassle. Mine is an A/C car so getting the air/vent box was a challenge. When I removed the blower box under the hood it gave more room to get to the bolts attached to the core. Watch the lower stud with the ground cable which helps with galvanic corrosion, be sure to reinstall the stud with the cable attached to the core, or the new core will fail also.

I took plenty of pictures before I took it apart to help reinstallation. It will probably take the better part of a day to change it out.

I'd also change those heater hoses and coolant, but that's just me. Good Luck.
