weird ignition problem

So whenever i try to crank up my car it wont get spark from the coil. But once i turn the key off it will spark once, and thats it.
Does anybody know what could be wrong?
Does it sound like a bad connector, or something bad in the ignition?
Thanks!
Ps. its a 1997 camaro with an LT1

Re: weird ignition problem

Scan if for codes, looking in particular for the codes for the high and low resolution pulse signals from the optical cam position sensor in the Optispark distributor, or for the ignition control module.

Re: weird ignition problem

Well I got the icm tested and it is good, I got a new coil, so it's good.
But I recently figured out the injectors are not firing either.
So something isn't giving the ECM a signal that the motor is turning over. Is this the optispark or crank position sensor messing up?
Thanks!
I'll check for codes when I can borrow my friends code scanner

Re: weird ignition problem

It's not the crank position sensor. That was only added to meet the OBD-2 requirement for misfire detection. It serves no other purpose.

The code for loss of low resolution signal from the cam position sensor in the Opti causes the PCM to shut down the fuel system - pump and injectors, and does not turn on the SES light.
