Stuck in Amarillo, TX
1995 Z28
Driving down the road the car quits. Try to restart and it occasionally hits but doesn't start. Pulled codes and got DTC 18, 51, and 67 67 is for the A/C I'm not worried about that at the moment. Ideas on DTC 18 and 51? I read one thread about DTC 18 possible being the ignition switch. Is that correct and a good place to start. DTC 51 can be any thing electrical possible right? Poor ground, a fluke, etc? No other codes. When cranking the codes did not come back. Help me get home to KY. ;-) |
Re: Stuck in Amarillo, TX
18 is for injector circuits. I'd check injector fuses first.

Re: Stuck in Amarillo, TX
Thanks, looked at all fuses in car and underhood. Everything looked good. I read a thread with a similar problem and they were looking at the ignition switch. Is that a possibility?

Re: Stuck in Amarillo, TX
I would not think ignition switch if all your dash lights stay on. If all circuits that are supposed to have power when the switch is on actually have power, then the switch wouldn't be suspect IMHO.

Re: Stuck in Amarillo, TX
Just came from checking out the car.
Ignition and Injector fuses are good. I even substituted others in to verify. Post suggesting jumpering battery to fuses 9,10,11 had no effect. Performed Shoebox's Optispark diagnostics. Voltages on ICM connector were good including the 1-4v AC pulse. Voltages were good on the can sensor connector. Didn't do everything because I had borrowed a vehicle from a hotel employee and needed to get back. I observed the tach and I got no response when cranking. Sat at 0. Is this a reliable test? First I've heard of it. Car is at a repair shop awaiting their attention. |
Re: Stuck in Amarillo, TX
Are you getting spark? If signals are good to ICM and you get no spark, then I would suspect ICM or coil.

Re: Stuck in Amarillo, TX
I didn't get to that. I have replaced the ICM in the last few days so maybe it is the coil.
