don't have a lot of time to deal with this and don't want to break out every test in the world

Got a 92 camaro V-6 no Spark, replaced the Ignition control module in distributor. engine turns over no spark still. I've read alot of people blame the VATS security system and the resistor in the key but most of these articles seem like they don't know what they are talking about as many other articles say the VATS would also keep the starter motor from working and therefor the engine wouldn't even turn over.

HELP, next it's the coil or sensor in the distributor

Maybe disconnect the antitheft system, and then see if the car fires up.Hope this helps.

camarojoe, The vats system does two things 1 - allows cranking by picking the Starter Enable Relay that sends +12 V to the starter solenoid. 2 - Sends a 30 HZ square wave pulse to the ECM that signals the ECM to pick the fuel injectors. Nothing to do with spark..

Hey bob

Yeah that's what my final research figured out too

That if it was the VATS system the engine just wouldn't turn over (starter wouldn't work)

but that's not my case engine turns over fine, just no spark and replace the control module in the distributor, so I think its the coil I just haven't had time to ohm it out and replace

plus with this model the Coil is mounted right over the pass exhaust manifold and you've got to think that the heat would lead to premature failure compared to HEI units with the coil in the distributor

No Spark on my 92 v-6
I have the same car and as of right now the same problem , and NO its not the anti theft, when the Anti theft engages , the motor will not even attempt to start... you just get a click when you turn your key, and when that happens you have to let your car sit for 15 mins,, with out touching it lol ... sorry I cant answer your question as I am looking for the same answer, have replaced the coil and the distibuter cap so far....still looking for the answer

GOT it
for me it was the coil, you say you replace the coil and cap

you didn't say that you had replaced the control module

Generally its either the coil or the module
