what is the best way to check you icm yourself

I took mine to AutoZone and they tested it. I had them run the test 4 or 5 times in a row to make sure it still worked after it got hot.

all u need is a voltmeter because the specs are to check the resistance. Call autozone and they have a book with the specs and how to perform the test. The haynes manual also has it. The first test is for the primary, which is the two female connectors that are next to each other. I am not sure what the spec is. The second test is to put the positive terminal on the part the plug goes on, and the neg side in the female connector that is in the top left. I also dont know the spec for that either

autozone told me they couldnt check mine, the dealer said it had to b in the car, said the same about the pcm. what good is a dealer shop if you have to take the whole car for them to check a part.

dealer was wrong about the icm. Find out why autozone couldn't check it. They have a machine and a catalog that goes with it and a bunch of different connectors. They look up your car in the book, it tells them what connector to use, then they hook up the connector to your icm and to the machine. It runs about a minute long test and then decides if it is good or not. the machine is small and is usually in a drawer within a rolling cabinet. The connectors are in the drawer underneath the machine. Or call up and ask another local autozone. Or speak to the manager at the one you went to originally and see what the problem was. Maybe the machine was broken? good luck.
