Going vented opti. Have opti but need everything else.

So I have a brand new stock Delco 95 vented opti upgrading from the 94 opti. Besides the 95 timing cover and the timing cover gasket, What else do I need? Do I really need the vacuum lines? Any crank and cam seals?

Also, gonna plug up the waterpump shaft hole in the timing chain cover. What size freeze plug is needed?

thanx

You can't do it with a stock cam. Did you know that? Any mods you are not mentioning? Yeah you need the vacuum lines. There is no point in doing a vented opti swap without them.

Pre-written list:

If you want to change to a vented from non-vented, you have to do many things. It may not be cost effective unless you are doing a cam swap at the same time.

Besides the optispark itself (GM p/n 1104032), you need:
  • 95 or later timing cover [1995 front cover (includes round seals) GM p/n 12552426]
  • late model or aftermarket cam (or have your cam modified by drilling the hole in the front to the proper size [.500"dia. X 1.0625" deep] and a longer dowel pin added
  • 95 and later optispark electrical harness GM p/n 12130319
  • optispark vacuum harness GM p/n 12555323
  • vacuum fitting [GM p/n 14082470] or "tee" to provide vacuum for the opti
  • 95 or later timing set components (or at least the cam gear) cam gear (GM p/n 10206039), crank gear (GM p/n 10128346), chain (GM p/n 10128485)
  • timing cover gasket GM p/n 10128293
  • water pump gaskets [2] GM p/n 10128343
  • intake manifold gaskets if you are pulling the cam GM p/n 12524653

Shoebox, you are da man!

Of course I knew that. But if I'm going to do a double roller than I have to ditch the 94 opti. I'll be honest, not too thrilled about more tubes running throughout the engine after I just ripped out the EGR and air tubes.

As for the mods, everything that goes around an LE 226/230 .565/.565 111 LSA cam.

Edit: This cam may be an option as well: Ai 230 / 238 .575/.575 110 LSA

We'll see.

most places I look I see the vacuum harness and vacuum fitting as one piece.

I can get my hands on a used timing cover but will the round seals be shot?

If you are asking about the seals in the timing cover, I would absolutely replace them. I would never trust a used seal, especially in such a critical location.

1995-1997 front cover opti seal 12552428
1993-1997 front cover crank seal 10128316
1995-1997 optispark o-ring (need 2) 10474278

Other than going to the local GM dealer and getting taken to the cleaners where can I get these seals at a reasonable price?

To go double roller dont you have to do an e- w/p conversion as well? I wasnt aware of a manufact. for double roller with the w/p drive gear on the timing set.

You are correct. There is no double roller that is compatible with the wp drive.

You can get the timing cover kit at Autozone, they sell a Felpro kit.
