alternator question

Greetings All,
Does anyone know offhand if the 1968-1969 302 Z28 engine use the same alternator and fuel pump? I have a 1968 Z28 with the RS package but is has a period correct 1969 302 Z28 engine in it. Thanks in advance with all replies and Happy Holidays to all.

Re: alternator question

The Camaro White Book list two optional alternators available in both the years you ask about. 1968 list a 61 amp Delcotron unit (K76) used with air conditioning and a 42 amp Delcotron alternator (K79) that was not available with the 375hp engine, air conditioning or automatic transmission. In 1969, a 42 amp Delcotron (K79) is listed except on a 375 hp engine, Z28 or with a/c and a 63 amp unit (K85) was also available. The production numbers shown for these RPO's are very low when compared to the total Camaros produced, so there must have been a standard amp base model unit used.
As for the fuel pumps, the 1967 - 68 302 engine used the same pump and the 1969 302 used the same pump as the 350 as shown in this picture from a 67 -69 Camaro Parts Book.

If you're restoring a car back to it's original condition, a parts book like this is invaluable for learning what parts came with what packages. You can usually find reproductions of these books on Ebay, but the prices may inhibit some from buying because they're not after this type of part correctness for their build.
