What kind of potential does this combo posses?
 
Ok I am just curious what I could do with what I have as opposed to dropping a ton of $$$ on heads and other naturally aspirated go fast stuff:

Assume solid 355 (forged pistons, good rods, good crank)
Vortec heads, good amount of porting/polishing, roller rockers, etc
Comp NX284 camshaft
ATI D1SC blower or something similar
9:1 compression, enough boost to warrant race gas

What kind of numbers could a setup like this make? Best the motor trapped naturally aspirated as it sits now on pump gas and street tires is 111.85 to a 12.28.

Just curious.

I think the vortec heads will be the limiting factor to that setup. The intake runners are too small, IMO. Also, give the specs on the cam, I'm too tired to look them up at the moment. :)

The cam is just a suggestion, something in the 23X/24X range. Yeah the vortecs are pretty small, but you guys are doing some impressive things with stock heads on these forums so I figured I'd ask...

Yeah, but we're limited with our choices on the LT1. A set of $200 dollar stockers we can have ported, or a set of $2k AFRs which still need to be ported. Since you're using a gen 1 SBC, a set of large chamber heads with a large intake runner will lower the compression so you can run more boost, and produce some truely stupid numbers. As far as cam, have it matched to the heads/boost you intend to run. :)

The reason I am asking is this. I am at a crossroad with my setup as it sits. Pretty much whatever I do is going to require an engine overhaul. The thing is, I would rather put good money towards a blower than a set of aftermarket heads for a naturally aspirated mill, I am just realistic and know I cant do both. I would imagine my heads now flow a lot like a set of AFR 180's since they have a fair amount of quality port work done to them.

Well, you could have them flowed and see how they stand up. Honestly, I think you're better off investing in a set of heads before you throw a blower setup together. A good set of heads can make or break a setup. :)

If the bottom end is going to be built then its going to take some big money heads to even come close to the power that youll make with the blower and vortec heads. I vote for blower first and heads later on.

A good set of heads can make a setup but it wont necessarily break it with a blower.

Probably about double what it currently does.
