Re: vortech SQ

You don't hear the gear noise but you do get a very nice whistle, I had a sq on car and just upgraded to a T. The sq was much nicer sounding all whistle no grind.

Re: vortech SQ

It sounds really good, not too loud at all. My previous blower was a P600B, a monster. Big difference in sound, but not in performance.

Re: vortech SQ

if you dont want a quiet blower then you should get the regualr V2. the SQ is SUPERQUIET just like the SQ stands for. i thought it would be much louder. it sounds cool when its cold and the oil is thick and not lubing well yet but after the oil warms up it is down right silent.

the only whistle i hear is between 1100 and 1400 rpm.........so basically never. only when your in a parking lot jockying around.

Re: vortech SQ

I was running a Vortech V1 the last two years on my little 305. It was really fun, the only concern was the loud noise that it made. (it is not allowed over here... )
On the last US-Car meet, I saw an LT1 Vette with also a Vortech V1 and it was really quiet.
I'm wondering what made the difference. could it be that the intake pipeing is better? Or did I get a bad supercharger unit, because the loud scream was from the beginning.

Thanks
Pat

Re: vortech SQ

So you say the V2-SQ is much more quiet?

Damn I can't decide if I should change to a V2-SQ and throw the whole thing back in or if I should sell it...
I would hate it to find out that the new ones are still noisy

Re: vortech SQ

I've got Vortech's Street Legal V2 SQ 7lb kit installed on my 97WS6 and love it. It is really quiet. The loudest it gets is if you cruise at 2500 rpms or so you can hear it but it's not real loud. Other than that its quiet. I haven't had any problems at all with the Vortech setup.

I love the SQ. I probably would have gotten sick of the noise of a louder one after a while. It still has a nice whistle that passing cars can hear.

Re: vortech SQ

ss#1230 ...are you sure there is a "regular" V2 and a SQ-V2 ? I thought the V2 was the SQ version. If there really is a "regular" V2 ...how does it sound compared to the V1?

Re: vortech SQ

ya know you are right. i met a guy a few years ago who had a vortech on his lt-1 and he said it was a v-2 but not the quiet version. but he must have had the v1. the v2sq is the upgrade to the v1

on their web site they only advertise F-body kits with the SQs. LT-1 is the V-2SQ and the LS-1s with the V-9SQ.

but to answer your question, the dudes SC was louder than mine but not annoyingly loud. id rather mine sound like his.

You'd rather have the V1? I wonder what the V2 is like compared to my Powerdyne in terms of noise. With the PD I like the little turbine whistle you hear on shifts but it's just not quite enough, I wish it wasn't so darn quiet. I plan to upgrade to a Vortech next year, if the V2's a tad louder than the Powerdyne I'll probably go that route, especially since it's really the more efficient blower (more so than the V1). You can make great power with either Vortech though, if the V2's super silent like my Powerdyne I may prefer the V1. But not if it's annoyingly loud ....I just need to hear them in person and ride in a car that has one or the other? ....Rob? ...lol, we need to get together anyway just for fun.

Re: vortech SQ

i dont know about other V2SQs but i know mine is quieter than a powerdyne.
if you go to the vortech website you will see that they advertise them to be nearly silent.

the only time you can hear a whistle is when you are somewhere like a parking lot and you are revving between 1200-1400rpm. even then its very quiet.

depending on your power needs you may want to get a V1. they arent annoying. at least not the ones ive heard.

people say that the prochargers are loud suckers though.

If it's really quieter than a Powerdyne that is seriously quiet! Mine is pretty much the same way, you barely hear it on the shift (even with a bypass valve) or when putting around at low revs .....and it's always quiet. Give it a little gas and all you hear is exhaust. Don't get me wrong ....I like stealth, but I like the sound of any high rpm device probably a bit more ....perhaps a V1 would be a better upgrade for me (and cheaper).
