Turbo's are fun

Just thought I'd put that statement out there

Beautiful ~80 degree day in Michigan today meant the car had to come out . Turned in the wastegate screw a little before driving home from work. Car runs okay at best. This FMU has got the AF gauge pinned at 10:1 in boost. Ah-well, better than runnin' er lean. Ran into a little traffic where they've got 4 lanes down to 2 on the highway. Typical Friday drivers too, stopping, up to 30mph, stopping.... Car's creeping up there, about 200F. I have this real light misfire at super light throttle position so the car is breaking up and bucking along. Finally, the last barrier and back to 4 lanes. Third gear and swung over to the right at about half throttle then mat-ed it. Turbo comes up on spool, then really starts pulling good after 4k, hit the limiter at 5500, pull fourth, and let it run out for a bit - maybe to 120 or so. Man that feels good. Felt like a 600ci motor under the hood.

Edit......Any good stories illustrating the fruits of the labor?

man, when i did my first build, i had boost for about 2 weeks. then i warped a header flange somehow, couldnt figure it out for the longest time. got on it one day...spooling sound, no power. I was like WTF.

About a week after chasing down everything and getting it fixed, took it back out. Really funny because i lost to a bolt on mustang because of the header flange, took it back out for a rematch and it wasnt so pretty.

I wish i had insurance on my car so i could take it out lol

I ran 'er out a bit at 15psi on Monday. Geezuss, the car was moving out in third and fourth. Any sort of lag when you hit it is more than made up for by a relatively-strong mid range with the gage reading 8psi...which then rapidly moves over to 15 around 4500. Turbo is screaming. Motor is screaming through the open down pipe. Damn my 5500rpm limit.... Lifted the throttle and pushed the clutch in - glanced down to see 0psi oil pressure Then noticed rpm was zero too....Hmm, I'm thinking - is that all the motor could take? Coasting along to my highway exit with the clutch in......... figured I'd let the clutch out slow in fourth. Slow enough to make sure that if the motor was locked it wouldn't lock the tires.....POP! back running......I guess it stalled when the intake tube popped - again - after lifting in fourth.

Right before I shifted to fourth the wideband went from 10.0 to ~14. In fourth it was at 10 and when I saw ~12, I let off.

The FMU has got the car pig rich with 24lb injectors right up to the end when the T-Rex pump can't give anymore.

.......Turbo's are fun

Ya I've had trouble too when I lift at 15psi it used to pop the intake elbow off the throttle body. I took a file and made a lip around the throttle body.

I know mines not a turbo but boost is boost. When I had normal street tires(no dr's) on my car I had a mustang that was wanting to race. I just mashed the pedal to the floor at 65mph and laid a scratch. He got a funny look on his face and didn't want to race anymore. LOL
