Sorry for my stupidity, but is a blowoff valve the same thing as a wastegate? I'm just starting to look into going turbo, trying to learn what everything is.

 

no, wastegate controls when the exhaust goes from going through the turbo to not, and the BOV lets excess built up boost out of the intake piping like when you spool up the turbo then let off the gas and close the TB
