Smile Some more progress on the 'Bird...

Finally installed the powder coated intercooler tubing and ceramic coated 3 inch into 4 inch y-pipe on Saturday. I am going to install the modified bumper (ya gotta see this thing) and hood on Wednesday. I should have the car completed soon.

Here's a link to a multi-part video clip. I posted one of the three parts before.

Very nice setup. Well thought out and clean install. That is a beautiful intercooler, nice core size, end tanks. Most people use intercoolers that are borderline small for the application. Looks like you will have a nice dense charge with that setup.

Curious about the rest of the setup and motor. Why the single plane in the forced induction setup? No doubt better, but worth the cost?

Re: Some more progress on the 'Bird...

Thanks for the post. That is a great setup. I am wanting to do a FMIC setup on my car when I get my motor done but I did not want to have to relocate the battery. This gives me some good ideas. There is a company near where I live that makes their own intercoolers for drag cars and they fab all of the intercoolers and tubing in house. I will probably have them do it.

Also, what are the specs on that cam, it sounds really good. Especailly the LSA since its a blower car.

Thanks! I really tried to do a clean install. I can't stand cars that are hacked together. That's Griffin intercooler. The intake manifold is an Accel (that is used to convert the old style sbcs to fuel injection) that was modified to work with the LT1 heads. I used a Wilson 90 degree intake elbow with a Holley 95 mm throttle body (used in Ford applications). Worth the cost? You betcha! Cam specs? Sorry... my engine builder would kill me.

Can you at least say if it is over 114 LSA, I am getting parts together for a forced induction engine and I have never heard a car with a 115, 116 or 117 LSA cam. I hear that they don't sound very good, that's why I was intrested. I just want to know what to expect when I get my custom grind.

Re: Some more progress on the 'Bird...

Very nice setup.

A few suggestions:

1) I would recommend getting some T-bolts. I learned the hard way that worm style clamps are garbage.

2) I would also recommend fitting a bigger filter. I could be wrong but that filter looks extremely small for your setup.

3) If you encounter any belt slippage then I would highly recommend getting an SD Concepts spring loaded tensioner.

When are planning to have some number?

On each end of the tubing, I had a "ring" welded on to keep the hose in place. The worm clamps should work just fine as I have seen this method used in the past with success. If not... I'll get some t-bolt clamps.

The air filter is huge... I admit, it looks small in the pic... must be all of the black around it.

If I get anyy slippage, I'll probably go with a cog set up.

I should have some numbers very soon.

What kind of heads are you running on that beast?

Just one question about the cam, would you consider it on the larger side or on the smaller side?

Looks nice.

I doubt you will have any problems with the blower belt. I would take a big serpentine over a cog on a stick shift street car any day.

I agree with IDOXLR8 about the clamps though, you'll definitely want t-bolts with 18+lbs of boost.

Hey, I just wanna know if it's big or small, I wouldn't exactly consider that compromising information, lol.
