small block headers compatible w/ LT1 heads?

Are the regular small block headers compatible with the LT1 D-shape exhaust ports? I'm looking at a set of truck headers (shorties) to serve as my twin headers, turned backwards of course. They are off a 85-95 chevy truck and are nearly symetrical and will put the turbo exhaust housing just forward of the front exhaust ports. Just wondering if I will have to do any port modifications to either the header of the heads to get them to bolt up...

I don't know if this helps, but the standard SBC gaskets you get at Autozone are circular, not d-shaped.

Yeah I know... Maybe I should go pick up a set and size them up to my head and see how it will fit.

If the openings on the flange completely cover the d-ports on the heads, there should be no problems. We did this with the ZZ4 engine in my father's 82 Corvette, and it by no means seemed to hurt the performance. I've read (I believe in something published by GM) that it doesn't really make a difference.

They work. I swapped an LT1 into a fullsize truck and used headers meant for a fullsize with a 305/350.

If you do this make sure to get the header gaskets for the old SBC. The Hooker LTs are round and when I used a D-shaped LT1 header gasket, I could not get them to stop leaking. I guess the D-shaped gasket would let exhaust come through.

They will work fine. You may need to slot the bolt holes slightly to get the headers centered on the ports, after you flip them. I am using a set off an S-10 for my twins..
