Question About Sts Upgrade On Stock Engine

I have a 94 camaro m6 z28. If I were to buy a STS Turbo system and wanted to upgrade the unit to a garrett t-67 or t-70 turbo could I run a low boost on my stock engine till I can get some more money for a rebuild. I just wanted to have everything ready so when I get the rebuild I can turn up the boost like to 12 or so without replacing the whole unit for the power I want. Also could I just get by --just changing the pistoins to lower the compression and keep everything stock and run maybee 12 pounds or so -- How much power should that give me

Sure you can get away with just changing the pistons, but I would upgrade the rod bolts when you do that. I had a budget rebuild like that that I ran up to 18 psi on. As far as the turbo, as you know a larger turbo on the STS kit will suffer a little more lag, but yes you can still use it and run low boost with it till you rebuild.

As smokn said a turbo upgrade on a stock engine would work fine but you would see a little more lag than you would with the to4e. I would suggest the T67 for the upgrade.

Okay if I do decide to get the t-67 upgrade and just have the pistons and rods changed not bored or anything since I'm on a tight budget. Do you think I can achive 550 rwhp??? How much psi would I have to run on a guess to achive those numbers and is it possible since it's not a 355. - mike
