New Aeromotive 340lph fuel pump..

I bought the panel and the electric sheet metal shears plus the sheet metal screws and silicone sealer for the Trap door.
This came last Friday.

I've been running the original stock in tank pump plus a NOS 5176 inline pump since 2000. They still perform fine but seeing as the original pump is now near 17 years of continual duty and the NOS pump was used when I put it in, methinks I should refresh those things.

I have a WalBro 240lph that was part of an LT1 Racetronics kit. I never installed it so I'll be selling that.

Really looking forward to racing this Spring. I have a few local guys that think they can take me in the quarter mile. We shall see.....

You really need to make sure you upgrade the in-tank wiring including the bulk head fitting on the cap. That pump can draw some serious current.

Re: New Aeromotive 340lph fuel pump..

Thanks Chris,
I've already ran a 10ga wire thru the PCM grommet, under the carpet out, then out the right rear fender to that area from when I had a Nitrous bottle warmer. I'm going to see if I can find a spare pump assembly from a boneyard to do as you said, plus do the AN braided fuel lines since I'm told the pump can be restricted by stock fuel lines. That way I can have minimum down time. Pull out the old, put in the fully assembled new.

Re: New Aeromotive 340lph fuel pump..

I ended up using one of these on my twin setup.

Racetronix - Universal Bulkhead Wiring System, 4-Way

Both sets of wires carry power (2 to each pump) and I used the stock wiring as a ground (again, 1 for each pump) out of the tank and to the chassis.

Re: New Aeromotive 340lph fuel pump..

Got the harness and the relays. Nice quality. I didn't know Racetronix was in Canada. Good service. Got here quick and in good shape. Is this harness specifically for dual pump setups? I suppose I could put both my WALBRO 240lph and the Aeromotive 340lph on the stick but not hook up the Walbro pump outside the tank. Or.. put all wires on the Aeromotive. Not sure... Thanks again for the tip. I'm gonna be busy in Feb installing all the parts I've accumulated

Re: New Aeromotive 340lph fuel pump..

It's not that hard to run a few wires through the tank bulkhead. Instead of one 14 ga wire I ran two - one for each pump - and then a nice fat 10 ga ground wire on both sides of the plate. I have dual same weatherpack connectors on the outside so that I can alternate the main pump every year or so. The pic doesn't really show both pump's weatherpack connectors because at the time of the photo, one was routed straight through the white connector, but there are two of them in the actual application. You can see the ground at the brass stud sticking up on the plate.

It's actually a replacement for the normal bulkhead connector in the tank. I just used mine for the power side of the two pumps (double 14ga wires).

I'd pull the inline pump all together so you're not trying to push fuel through it.

Re: New Aeromotive 340lph fuel pump..

Thanks for the pics. Those always help. How did you attach those AN fittings to the stock tubes? Flaring them? or compression or ?

Re: New Aeromotive 340lph fuel pump..

Those are standard compression/AN fittings that you can buy to fit right on the tubes.

AN to Tube Adapter Fittings - SummitRacing.com

You could flare them just as easy if you have the tool.

I used all 3/8 lines, though, just took the stock ones out of the plate and soldered a larger one in its place. I didn't like the stock lines, and if you notice some of them are necked down before they go to the pump as you can see in the pic below. I realize some guys did just fine using stockish parts, but I have my way of doing things so I don't have to worry about it later.

Re: New Aeromotive 340lph fuel pump..

I was going to say, your lines looked larger than the tubes on the one I just picked up (a spare sending unit. Thanks Twisted Synergy in Rensselaer,NY) I'll do the same as you, Thanks so much for your guidance on this!
