Need help with supercharging issues.
Need help with supercharging issues.
I have a couple of questions about some things. Any help would be appreciated.
Here is the deal, I have a P600b going on a 96 LT1 that is in a 91 RS.
First, I have found a new place to put the blower. It is right beside the driver side head. I have a template that I have mounted to the car and am working around. The only problem now seems to be the intercooler piping. The way it was intended to come up is getting in the way of the drive belt of the sc. So I plan on flipping it around. Which doesn't leave me with a lot of room for extra pipe. I was wondering, would a front mount location for the intercooler be less effective than the horizontal with the ram air effect. Remember, this is in a 3rd gen and the front opening in the bumper cover has a few restrictions in it that would block some of the air.
There was some more questions that I have forgotten. I will post them as soon as I remember.
Thanks for any help. Mike.

It should not matter. I have my 2 core front mouted in My 95 TA and I noticed the IAT dropped about 7 degrees at crusing speeds and since the Intercooler is not getting heat soaked from being under the car and sitting in traffic, I feel its a better location. I also notice that the IAT seems too cool off quicker after a hard run too. You can check my webpage (in the sig) to see pics, there are some pics on page 3 and one on page 1. Also on page 2, you will see how I mounted My Airfilter so that may help you out as well.
Hope that helps,
Claude

Thanks. I think I will try to mount it in the front then.
Where do you get the tubing from. I saw you used pvc. I know where to get that but what about the connector pieces(runbber stuff).
Also, I have been thinking about going to coated long tubes over my current shorties. Will that help more with the blower setup. How about a larger MAF and TB? I still have stock stuff. I know there would be gains on the NA setup but wasn't sure about with boost.

Most of the hoses and torque clamps I got from
www.Tubrohoses.com
And the straight 3inch tubes I got from Autoparts store and it came with my Intercooler kit which I bought used.
Long tubes will definetly give you more HP and Torque in the lower rpms but if you already have a good set of shorties (ie SLP or ASM) then I would stick them if the primaries are 1 3/4 NOT 1 5/8. Also I still have my stock 48mm TB, but I hear that upgrading to a 58mm on my set up would be good for another 10-15HP or so and would also increase boost by 1/2 a pound to 1 pound in the intake manifold.
Hope that helps and good luck.

I do have 1 3/4 slps. I was not happy with the quality of the welds but they must be doing something. Everyone I hear says they love their Hooker long tubes. Are they about the best for the buck. If I did keep my shorties, I would definately coat them for looks and a cooler engine bay.
It looks like I will have to run the pipe to the tb up the pass. side and come from that side instead of the driver's side. Will the extra few feet of pipe hinder my performance?
Thanks, Mike.
