MAF relocation.. why?

i have a s-trim i'm installing on my 94z28 and wondered why i can't keep the maf in the stock location setup? why does it have to be routed all the way to the bottom near the air filter? also i have no EGR and AIR delete. so the supercharger comes with parts for that and a bypass valve for pressure release. now since i don't have any of the above equipment on the car anymore i can just skip these mods and be fine? doesn't the bypass connect to the air or egr?

Thanks

You can keep the MAF in the stock location, you just need to shorten the pipes to make it fit. Alot of people, including myself, do this. It seems to help with the idle and a few other things, and you can allow the bypass or blow off valve to vent to atmosphere for a simpler installation. :)

Be sure to use a stock MAF, Ed Wright mentioned a long time ago people blowing through the Z06 MAF and dislodging the thermistors. I've be cautious blowing through an aftermarket MAF. I'm pretty sure that's the reason for blower manufacturers wanting to suck through instead of blowing through the MAF.

Hope this helps,

One advantage to putting the MAF in the stock location is if a hose blows off, the engine will still run and you will not be standed. Likewise, if there is a leaking hose somewhere between the blower and MAF, the engine will run much better because the MAF will only register the amount of air going thru it, and will properly fuel the engine.

I relocated the maf from the Vortech kit location. It has worked out pretty well so far. Although the idle is rougher than I would like, it is still okay. Sometimes the idle is wondering, mainly becaue the outlet to the blow-off valve is in close vicinity, causing turbulence near the sensor. Maybe I should try putting the screen back on and see what happens. :D
