Lots of boost

Hey guys building a forged 383 and adding a F1.How much boost can a stock block handle?I am starting with about 15 psi but will eventually go up as more mods are made.Maybe add a little nos. Thanks guys

There are people making over 1000 rwhp out of a stock block. If you are going the F1 route then I would highly recommend not getting the twin high flows and going with a custom front mount intercooler. I know rskrause is putting down some good numbers with his F1 and he is also spraying on top of that. :) Hope you have a big budget. :D

A stock block can handle a LOT. Madman and George Baxter were throwing over 1000hp at them back in the day. I plan on testing the limits of the LTx block this year. :D

My question is this... if you only want 15psi- why bother with an F1? And why dream of N20? The F1 is more than enough to put a car into the 9's. You also don't mention anything about good heads. It takes more than a shortblock to make a car scream. :)

Good luck!

Good points Steve! A little clarity about goals and objectives will go a long way.

But the reality is that the block itself will handle more power than 99.99+% of us are going to make. A 383 with decent heads, a medium sized blower (D1, T-trim), and a fairly mild hydraulic cam will make in the high 600-700rwhp range (if it's an M6). There is a lot in terms of supporting components needed even at that level. The block will certainly not be a probem if it is prepped properly.

New combo is not together yet. Last years dyno numbers aren't comparable to previous due to switch from M6 to TH400 with 4,200 stall. But it showed 637rwhp on the dyno (with no nitrous) and ran 10.22 @ 140+ with a 4,100lb race weight (including driver) and a 75hp nitrous shot. Peak boost was 17psi and peak hp was at 6,000rpm. This year, I am running a new cam and a stronger bottom end. I plan to try a 200hp nitrous shot.

Hey fella's thanks for the replies.Maybe there was some confusion about my goals.I said that I was starting out with 15 psi to get use to the power and then increase as more mods are made. The heads I will be useing are the Pro 1.Thanks again for your comments

If you plan on making over 15lbs with the F1 I would highly recommend going with an SD concepts spring loaded tensioner. Also I would highly recommend ditching the twin high flows and going with a custom FMIC. The twin high flows are suppose to be good for 700 hp. :)
