Giving cogs another chance...
Giving cogs another chance...
Well, contrary to my last post, I've decided to give the cogs setup another chance...
The easy reason is I want to get it back to the track and it's the easiest setup to put back on the car. The real reason is I just don't want to give up the hp without a fight...
For those that haven't been following this, I blew a head gasket at the track. When we pulled the engine we checked the dampner and discovered that the crank bolt had backed out and the torque of the engine and unforgiving nature of the cogs, had broken the dampner at the keyway. I ordered an ATI 2-piece dampner and had the crank double keyed. The ATI piece looks a lot stonger than the old Fluid Dampner and really fits the crank tight, so after some prayer and voodoo ceremonies I've decided to go ahead and put the cogs back... The car should be buttoned up early this afternoon and we're taking it to the track directly after that.
The Cometic head gaskets turned out to be a real pain to get, but they're supposed to be bullet-proof, so we'll see. I haven't checked the DA today, but hopefully it won't be too bad and we can get in a few good test runs.

Bingo. Hit three 11.8xx runs tonight all over 120 with only fair 60s. Mostly 1.9s... This is at 5800 ft in a 3910 beast. I'll post the slips tomorrow. I'm beat.

Those traps speeds are looking more like it for your power level too......
Thanks guys, there's still more there. A broken shifter cable kept me from doing good burnout, so the 60s should come down. With some weight reduction and a good burnout, I think it'll go mid to low 11s at 5800 (which was the goal)
I'd like to know how it goes. I have a cog setup and just broke the key. I thought about getting it double keyed like you did, but I'm afairaid it might break(snout, key, hub) again.

Good so far. Definately go double keyed. I'd also suggest the ATI with the underdrive dampner. It's a lot less mass hanging out there... The deal about only one key getting all the force may be true, but it should be a different key 50% of the time... Just a guess, though...
