FMIC on a LT1 formula
 

How would you run it? Wanna keep the stock bumper cover, but willing to modify it. car is getting new paint after I am done.

i know this is an old thread. anyone else have any pics? just about ready to do this to my 95 formula, just looking for ideas?

You want pics of just the bumper or mounting ideas too? The mounts are going to be basically the same between Camaro and Formula, its your preference how you cut the bumper itself.

im meaning pics of the bumper its self. ive seen some guys use mesh, some just left open, just wondering how people are cutting them. i just dont want mine to look bad

Ah- I wish I had saved some of the pictures I used to have on my other computer. I think they look good either way- personally, I like both the open look if done right, and also some guys have colormatched the mesh which also looked good too.

I have a TA, but it's similar enough. I mounted my intercooler horizontally underneath the nose. Requires a little trimming on the bottom of the nose, but the air damn forces air up and through. There's actually aluminum brackets holding the front of it in place now, those top two pics were taken at mock up and the bottom one was taken after I put the nose on the car last night.

Fastbird, how are your iat's and how hot does your car get on normal street driving conditions? Do you scrape at all?

When we dyno tuned it the IAT's were about 5-10* above ambient with zero airflow going over the IC. Haven't done any street logging yet, but will be shortly. Car runs a bit hot right now but I'm attributing that to lack of fan capability. The way the IC is installed, there's FAR better airflow up to the condensor/radiator than if I had the IC mounted upright. I'll do some logging sometime in the next couple of days and see if I can't come up with any good firm numbers for ya. It is definitely NOT the low point up front. I was VERY careful to make the mounting point slightly higher than the radiator crossmember, so I'd have to hit something REALLY high to ding the intercooler.

It looks as though all the airflow has to go through the IC before it can get to the radiator. With my front mount it doesn't interrupt the stock air flow design for the radiator and also allows lots of air for the IC- which then can make it to the radiator.

Your Z28 has a lot more open frontal area than the Firebirds though. The formula's if they weren't equipped with foglights are sealed, and the T/A's have extremely little open area for airflow.

How far forward of the radiator crossmember/air dam is your FMIC mounted? I think it would need to be mounted pretty far forward to not be an obstruction with the solid bottom sitting right there.

I actually had to cut into the bumper support about an 1" to get the right depth so it was far enough ahead to not be an obstruction the airflow for the radiator and still sit behind the bumper.
