deal or no deal. Vortech

My friend wants to sell me his vortech supercharger. It is polished and is set at 8psi. It is the blower itself without the mounting brackets or plumbing. No intercooler either. He said 600 bucks. Should i do it. Will not install for a while but is this a good deal or not?

also:
Vortech blowers need to be plumbed into the oil system right. what is the best way to do this and where can i get the belts, brackets, plumbing, etc for a SBC?

just got him to go to 500. S trim polished blower. 1600 on superchargersforless.com

brand new. Works at supercharger place and he got it at a discount/overstock/etc.

here is a link to their (Vortech's) SBC kit http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/...ck.html#system
contact them and they should be able to sell everything to you except the head unit.

Honestly, 600 for a head unit might be a good deal for some people looking to swap just superchargers. A couple of things....1) there is a heck of a lot more to a blower kit than the head unit. By the time you find a used blower kit minus the head unit....well you might not. 2) Maybe you have access to a machine shop where they can fab. brackets and tubing.....but you need data for this and it will certainly take a lot of time and money. Doesn't sound like a good buy for you, I'd look for a complete kit.

Vortechs use a drain-back to the oil pan. I'm pretty sure Vortech has these instructions on their site.

The mounting kit is 900. I don't know what this includes yet but will call them tomarrow (claims its everything minus the head unit). The blower is for 500. He is getting rid of the parts he is not using and really needs money bad. I already inspected it (was going to put on his mach1 motored GT) and it was mint.

From what i herd the oil line installation is not bad at all.

one mroe thing, can i use a procharger blow thru cap over the carb instead.

I wasn't aware they had a mounting kit. Find out what model Vortech it is as well. $500 for a used polished S-trim or bigger in good condition is a good deal.

Your ATI cap will need to be able to fit inline with the Vortech kit. See what or if any cutting/modification needs to be done to run ATI's blow thur setup. Vortech also offers a carburetor encloser which I can imagine is more expensive.

67speeda:

Also make sure the blower spins in the correct direction for you setup and in what position the discharge is in (curved or straight).

okay will do.

here it is online:

dumb question: what is the correct direction on a SBC?

I have MSD ignition, should i get their boost retard. I am also going to get a better blow though carb and upgrade the fuel system.

for now the set up will sit in garage untill funds are advailable.

just noticed they have different plumbing for both types of discharge.

Re: deal or no deal. Vortech

Just note that S-trims can come in either clockwise or counter-clockwise rotations with either a straight or a curved discharge. I'm not sure what your mounting kit calls for. The head unit could be mounted facing forwards or backwards depending on brackets. My dumb azz can't recall the rotational direction of your SBC (Which should be the same as my LT1 LOL!)

Be sure to check out Vortech's web page as well.

Timing retard should be used in certain applications to avoid detonation. You can pull out a set amount of ignition timing per pound of boost.

Turn the pulley clockwise while its facing you. Look at the impeller. If the blades would cut your fingers as you rotate it its going the correct direction. If it was built for a mod motor Ford it won't work as its a reverse rotation unit.

Seriously, unless you have a weird Honda engines rotate clockwise while looking at the balancer from the front.

Re: deal or no deal. Vortech

thx i brought it yesterday. Spins in the correct direction but...

the discharge is straight and faces my driver inner fender. This is perfect for a intercooled set up...

now i need an intercooler
