D1-SC Question????????

I'm getting my plan of action together for my stroked&blown LT1 that im building in the future. My question is, should i buy the kit that has the D1-SC blower, twin intercoolers, and "everything" else to do it? Or would i be better off buying the head unit and one of those nifty 3-core intercoolers separately and fabbing up the rest of it myself. Im a pretty creative guy in the shop, and considering all the problems with the "orange dryer hose" and the "twin intercoolers choking out the boost" Im leaning towards the piecing it together idea. If anyone has any advice for me please tell me, and what exactly do you get when you buy just the head unit, just the blower or the mounting bracket and a pulley too? The motor is going to be around 9:1 all forged 383 with ported heads a big blower cam etc. Is this a good idea, bad idea, do you have a better idea? Please advise. Thanks very much.

Depends how much boost you plan to run. The twin IC's are a neat setup, but they are fairly limited in airflow. If you plan on no more than 10-12psi, they should be ok. If you want more, you will need a bigger IC setup. The intake ATI supplies is pretty useless, you will need to fab up something for that part of the install anyway.

I don't really know how much boost im going to run. I want the car to be able to run mid-high 10's with a full interior. How much power would that require? And how much boost would be needed to make the 9:1 383 put out that much? This car is going to be a street car, with occasional track use, thats why i want to go with a little higher comp and a little less boost. And i picked the D1-SC for a little more headroom and so i wouldnt have to really pulley it up to get to where i want to be. Am I on the right track? Oh yeah i want to use the stock computer with a low-impedance converter, Do you think its gonna work? Thanks

How much hp will be needed depends on the weight of the car and how optimized it is for the track. Mine is 3,850lbs and has a high performance street type suspension. IOW, it's not optimized for drag racing. It takes ~600rwhp to make mine run that fast, but most combos will need in the 500rwhp range.

You should be able to use the stock PCM and the Acceleronics computer. But an upgraded fuel system will be needed. There are a number of approaches. The cheapest that I can vouch for was the system I was running last year. A 255lph in-tank, stock lines, rails, and regulator with a Kenne Bell "Boost-a-Pump". The BaP increases voltage to the pump under boost. The Acceleronics twin in-tank looks good too. This year I have a much more exotic system, which is probably overkill.

i was planning on using the racetronix dual intank setup for fuel, as far as suspension goes im prolly gonna use the qa1 shocks, eibach drag springs for the back, et streets, spohn LCA's PHB tq arm etc, with a 12 bolt and a built 4l60e of course. the car is gonna be heavy cuz i dont wanna gut it like all the honda fans. would it be hard to get ~600rwhp of a 9:1 383 and still be a daily driver? Thanks for your help Rich.

600rwhp (with an M6) is pretty much where you will sit with a mild cam and 12-14psi. Dyno tests on an auto with a loose converter will produce lower hp readings.

Well thats all good news. OK so when it comes time for me to buy my blower, I guess it would be better to just buy the head unit itself and the intercooler separately cuz it seems like theres gonna be so much fab work to put it all together it kinda defeats the point of buying the kit. So if i went to tbyrne or a place like that and just bought a D1-SC, would it come with the big mounting bracket and the idler pulley/belt tensioner thing? cuz thatd be cool if it did. Also i think i wanna go with a front mount 3-core intercooler for "simplicity" if you can say that putting anything in a f-body engine compartment is simple. any suggestions on the intercooler are more than welcome. Heck half the fun of building up a car is coming up with the plan...............the other half is severely deviating from said plan when it comes time to institute it...........Right?
