cheap forced induction for stock LT1...
cheap forced induction for stock LT1...
just looking for maybe the addition of a supercharger on my car. it wouldnt be for a while still but i was wondering what would be good to go with on my basically stock LT1. i was thinking procharger cause they seem very good and safe but like most of them a little expensive.lol. anyone know of any thing good that is decently priced?thanks
Re: cheap forced induction for stock LT1...
The words "cheap" and "forced induction" rarely are used in the same sentence. You can buy a small used blower and throw it on a stock lt1, but sooner or later money will start flying out of your wallet when you have to rebuild and decide to upgrade while you're at it.
Heads and cam is a more cost effective and simpler (reliable) way to make the moderate hp gains that a small blower on a stock motor will give you.
My 2 cents

Re: cheap forced induction for stock LT1...
As stated above, cheap and supercharger don't go together. To use a supercharger safely you'll need custom dyno tuning, better fuel injectors, better ignition system and better pistons (forged).
Re: cheap forced induction for stock LT1...
If you find a used powerdyne and only run 4.5psi you will roughly pick up 50-60 hp. The kit should run 1600-2100 depending on how new it is. A dyno tune is going to be 500. So your spending 2000-2500 on 60 unreliable hp. Assuming you install it yourself. If you up the boost your going to need injectors, a fuel pump plus something to pull timing. Then there are other small items you'll need so make sure you don't spend all your money.
Stated before- heads and cam, or just a cam if funds are low. You could spin a bearing or deastroy your shortblock another way, but with a blower it is 10 times more likely to happen. 10.5.1 compression isn't helping or the pistons is our motors. Find the thread with the LE packages. The base one is 1100 and figure another 1100 for parts(timing chain, gaskets, etc) and labor. That is the way I would go, forced induction with an stock lt1 is risky business.
