Boosted 355 guys - What pistons?
Im looking at building a "budget" 355, meaning im planning on using the stock crank. Im wondering what people who have gone the boosted 355 route are using for pistons, and how well they are holding up.
Reason being, my engine builder is suggesting me a nice set of JE pistons, but they arent exactly budget. Since im looking at building something to handle lower boost safely, not high boost for numbers, im trying to see what other people are running, at what boost, and how they are holding up!

I used the Mahle Power Pack pistons this time - bought them at Flatlander Racing. They come with file-fit low friction rings and wrist pins, they are fairly light, forged 4032 high silicone alum, and fit tight so they don't rattle around in there. They also have coated skirts. My engine makes over 15# of boost with only water/meth for intercooling and they are holding up great so far. There are tougher pistons out there made with 2618 that will tolerate detonation better than these, but they will cost more and you also have to buy rings. They are good pistons to consider for an intermediate build.

Re: Boosted 355 guys - What pistons?
Thats kind of what ive been looking at, but the builder is highly recomending i go with 2618 pistons and total seal rings.
I can understand the rings, but what is going to be a big difference between an expensive 2618 and a cheaper 2618 piston? The engine will max be looking at 10-12 psi through ported stockers or a unported afr180 head, and 9.5 or less:1 compression?
I understand wanting to use good components, but If im looking for a motor to support 450hp, why am i going with 1000hp components?

Yeah, I don't know - if you are using the stock crank and smallish heads, I wouldn't think that you need the very best pistons available. They certainly won't hurt anything except your budget. Your car has a good degree of detonation protection with the knock sensor system, so that will help you if you get into trouble.
