I may be wrong, I'm just thinking the metal block is still going to ring if you tap it with a hammer (i.e. detonation in the head). Moving the knock sensor above the fill might help, but also changing it's location could be bad too.

could i fill it then just drill thru the material so that the water can still contact the sensor?

You're talking about a Knock Sensor, right?
Why would you need that to touch water?

i guess i was thinkin that water had to contact it for some reason. they why doesnt it just screw into the block and not go all the way thru? why did they make it thru the block into the water jacket?

It's cheaper to request a sensor have a thread pattern that matches a hole that's already in the engine block than to make new molds to add another hole to said engine block.

just fill it and make sure you do not use teflon tape to seal the threads because the knock sensor has to have a good ground contact with the block in order to give a good signal to the pcm , i have seen people use teflon tape and then get all kinds of knock retard thats all over the place

I put Silicon hoses true the KS and drain hole and up over the block, after the blockfiller had hardened i just pulled out the silicon hoses. Dont know if the sensors need watercontakt but its nice to have the possibility to drain the block.
