all you turbo guys out there, are your exhuaust systems loud?

I just got all my exhaust put on this week and it's pretty quite I would say. I can hear the engine over the exhaust when I'm standing in the back. I thought maybe I had leaks but I only have one small one. Another thing I thought was maybe I had too much restrictions but I used all 3", Y into one 3" and then strait all the way back, no cat, strait through muffler. I also used all mandrel bent piping. In some cases where I had very little room I angled cut.

I'd like to hear how other turbo'd LT1's are sounding. Someone also told me that exhaust systems are usually quite until they get the flow "imprinted", it should start getting louder after a few days

i had a 4" with a straight through muffler. it wasnt too loud. you could hear it, but it wasnt anywhere near what a NA car sounds like with a 4"(even a chambered muffler)

Thanks Jordan, I may have done things right then I have a question for you if you don't mind. Where should I tap the O2 sensors in? I have two for the PCM and a wide band. I know my wide band needs to be fairly hot before it starts reading right. I was thinking the stock O2's on the dp's and the wideband right before the turbo. You think that'll be too hot?

you do NOT want ANY o2 sensor before the turbo.

I would put each narrow band in the down pipe maybe 6" back, and put the wide band a coupleinches behind that. The wideband has a built in heater, so that close to the turbo is fine.mine was about 24" back.

be sure the wideband is facing down (say 75degrees are less from horizontal) so moisture wont colllect in it.

I'm not sure if its for the same reason. But you don't want to put anything in the exhaust pipe before the turbo.

If something breaks off, even something very very small, and hits the turbine spinning at 70,000rpm, insta-scatter.

The back pressure and extreme heat between the motor and turbo will cause the 02 sensors to be inaccurate.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll be welding 4 O2 bungs on my downpipes. 2 for the PCM, one for my wide band, and another for the dyno wideband

My exhaust is very quiet, almost like when it was stock. Just make sure the exhaust exits somewhere after the tranny, or it will sound like a race car inside the cockpit

Make sure it exits WAY behind the tranny, preferably out the back. No more pre-rear axel dumps for me. Way to much vibration inside the car. The cops didn't like it much either

my exhaust exits out the rear, I'm actually pretty happy about the noise level. I always thought it would have been loud but this is perfect I would say.

Bill, when are you going to update your site with some new pics?

Just as soon as I have something to put in there My block and rotating assembly are still sitting at the machine shop. I have EVERYTHING ready to go to put it back together. Also My lift is now occupied by my buddies 2000 SS. He spun a rod bearing and bent his crank at a Road racing event, so his car is in peices. Got 3 camaro's in the garage and not a one of them has a running engine in it! My hopes of getting mine running for the power tour are pretty much gone, so we are working on the SS so we have something to ride in! Me and the owner should finish porting the heads today and hopefully get them back next week from getting a seat job and maybe next weekend I'll have my lift back to start doing crap on mine again. So to make a long story short, I should have shopped around to a less busy machine shop, I'd probably be done by now!

Mine is fairly quiet riding around, but is "noticeable" when you jump on it!!

Dual 3" to Supertrapps out the back.. my O2 sensors are in the downpipes after the turbos, about 8" - 10" or so...

There is a short video if you take the link in my sig!

not to many rednecks with a garage big enough to hold 3 camaro's and still have room to work in If they were out in the yard, then yes

I'm from to far north to be a redneck
