Aftercooler watertank in TRUNK

Has anybody used the Vortech Aftercooler kit and mounted the watertank in the trunk, I did a search on the issue and it looks like Engineer Mike did something like this...Just kinda wondering what kinda effect this would have...I would think that the truck in somewhat cooler than the engine bay, and the REAL reason is I dont really want to relocte my battery to the trunk. I think the issue that would come about right away is..the chitty lil waterpump vortech sells may not have enough *** to pump the water from the watertank thru the Little radiator...to the "aftercooler" and back to the watertank. I see that the RV's have some pretty strong pumps though..like the one from SHURFLO. What other issue's do you do guys see with mounting the watertank in the trunk...this is an Impala SS by the way...this car is longer than a F-body but a considerable amount.

Thanks

It also helps with keeping the water/glycol from getting heat soaked as fast since you have more of it. Most people also install a drain so you can load up ice water at the track, drain it after a run and fill it up with ice & cold water again for the next pass. And yes, you will need a better pump than the one Vortech supplies.

Cool thanks man

And the side benifit of being able to use a bigger tank is a plus...this is good news, I really just didnt want to move my battery to the trunk, if moving the tank to trunk had even more plus's....then Im definitly for it.

Should I go with a "intake pump" or a "inline pump" Meizure a very nice inline unit...but the Ford Lightening pump and some of the Shurflo RV pumps look like they would work too.

My Impala SS is a LOOOOONG *** car...so would need a pump with some bawls most likely.

Peace

My tank is mounted in the trunk, and though I fully intended on needing a different pump when I installed the kit I used the Vortech pump for testing and it had more than enough flow to push the water through the entire system.

Feel free to buy a different pump but from my own experience on my car an upgrade was not needed.

Even better...only reason I was gonna upgrade the pump was..my car is LOONG, didnt know how the "pumping losses" would be over so much hose length..I will give it a whirl with the Vortech and if it doesnt keep cut it for me...its easy enough to swap out the pump.

Thanks

^^^^^^^^ that pump is the cats a.s.s, and I saw it in jegs...I was wondering about using it, can you mount that one "intank" I didnt look at the specs...but definitly looked at it while I was browsing thru the catalog.

Edit....just read specs..it is to be remote mounted

Thanks

Thanks...It looks like my kit came with a "Hella" water pump, and it looks as if its the SAME one used as the aux water pump on the 5 and 7 series BMW's...I will give this one a try..thanks

I have the 1.5 gallon resorvoir with my kit..it was designed to go where the battery is, the whole aftercooler kit costs me $2150 shipped..I dont wanna change TOO much of it..but I do want it to be effective, and putting the res in the trunk would definitly keep the water "cooler" juss kinda contemplating on using a 5 gallon fuel cell and a bigger pump, but from a search on here Zi have found that a couple of guys have used the vortech unit with success..I have a upgraded one..but a longer car (Impala SS) so maybe juss maybe this thing will push the water.

Thanks Fellas
Peace

I know I'm bumping an almost-year old thread, but does anybody have pictures and descriptions of how they mounted their water tanks in the rear?

ramair96ws6, I'm sending you a pm...

I ran the Vortech aftercooler with a trunk mounted water/ice tank for a while on my last setup. I can email you some pictures.
