500+ HP people....question for you
500+ HP FI people....exhaust question for you
What exhaust systems are you using? Please indicate the size of the piping and if it is true dual. Also, if you have any before/after dyno's after an exhaust change and have seen some interesting results, please share!
Here is my quesion, I have a single turbo 355 LT1 with about 520RWHP (It is being dyno'd and tuned as we speak
) and I am starting to think my 3 inch Borla exhaust is restricing my potential power. Do you think going to a 4" exhaust or a dual 3" exhaust would help on my application? Any ideas on horsepower increases?
BTW, I figure I should add that I have a 3 1/2 downpipe...Thanks

turbos like to breathe, get a real exhaust on it! Since you arent making a lot of power, it probably wont make a huge difference there, but it WILL spool faster

Borla.
That's what I run and many other guys I know who are also in the 500+ range. The highest I've seen so far is a Pro-charged 383 LT1 hitting 740 at the wheels. He was also running a Borla, so I think it's safe to assume the Borla's a pretty efficient exhaust. It also doesn't hurt that it sounds bas @ss too

Re: 500+ HP people....question for you
you're gonna gain about 75% more flow area from going from a 3" to a 4" exhaust. If you keep that all the way out the back that is. You'll definately gain horsepower doing it. How much? only a dyno will tell. If you bothered with the 3.5" downpipe you might as well finish it off with that. IMHO
Re: 500+ HP people....question for you
This may sound like a stupid question, but what size exhaust do Supra owners run? The reason I ask is that I'm sure we've all seen the 800/900/1000+ RWHP Supras on dyno's, and NONE of them are running duel exhaust. All single pipe cat-back systems. I'm pretty sure they're 3" systems. Anybody know?
Seems to me if those cars caan make such sickening amounts of power with only a single exhaust, I'm sure us Fbody owners can make due with our cat-backs if we only plan on making 500.
Just a thought....

Re: 500+ HP people....question for you
If it's a single turbo why bother splitting the downpipe into duals? Doubt it'll sound any better, and besides a large single pipe is easier to package. Like said above, just finish the 3.5" down pipe, or follow the downpipe from the turbo, and as soon as you have the clearance to expand it to 4" do so. Do a single 3.5"/4" XR1 or Magnaflow dumped or go over the axle if you wish, will flow good and sound good.

Let it breath
I'm running FLP 1 3/4 longtubes with a 4" Mufflex.
It made 654 with the FLP dual cats on it and I plan in dynoing it without the cats to see what differnce it will make
