240 datsun lt1 turbo buildup... ?????'s
Hey guys Im posting this for a friend of min, so I will try to relay his questions as best I can....
Basically what hes wanting to do is find a "budget" STREET lt1 buildup that will allow him to run a turbo setup and make mid 500's to the ground with a t56 in a 240 datsun that weighs about 2500lbs... now for the technical questions... he has about 2500 to spend on a bottom end and any headwork that he can buy with whats left over, I suggested but am not totally sure if it will handle the power needs of this application is a scat 9000 crank with eagle I beam rods (need suggestions on bearings and rings!!
) and a set of forged pistons from an undecided company. Now one question that arose is whether to go with a 355 or 383, now a 383 would most likely require more headwork but if the above bottom end setup wont be enough for mid 500's to the ground and who knows how much torque then headwork may be out of the question in search of a stronger bottom end using a more expensive forged crank in which 2500 would be pretty cheap for a forged bottom end... basically 383 or 355 for the above budget on the shortblock and heads, my guess is a 355 for sure and what ever if any headwork could be afforded after that. Now He will probably have a mild custom turbo cam ground for him to suit his specific application. Now we cam to the problem of what turbo would work best and how much boost would it take and how much compression could you run with that much boost, again my guess is like 9.25:1 with 10 or so lbs of boost... the goal being able to run PERFECTLY on 93 octane while having the highest compression for drivability reasons but being able to run enough boost to make the power he wants. Well Thats all for now for the sake of not complicating the post anymore... Thanks!

Hes making a turbo system hes got everything else covered. 2500 was the bottom end parts budget I think he can make 500's with stock heads, but none the less he still needs some info...
