Outdoor concert in the rain?

Going to Comerica Park in Detroit today for a concert. They are calling for 50% chance of thunderstorms late afternoon into the evening.

What happens in the event it rains too bad? I've not been to an outdoor concert where this has happened... do they just call off the show and we're out the ticket price? or....?

Re: Outdoor concert in the rain?

it probably depends on various factors. the venue may make the call or teh band. it probably depends on whats in the agreements between all of the parties involved in puttign on the show.

I think the only concert I have been to where it rained was Deftones back in 2001. The band was covered so they just kept playing even with all the lightning.

You mosh in the mud.

If they call off the show they could reschedule or give you your money back if you have the tickets.. either way you won't be out the money.

Re: Outdoor concert in the rain?

I went to Steve Miller at DTE a week ago, and sat on the hill. It rained hard for maybe 30 minutes. No stoppage of show. I had brought a 0.7 mil 12'x20' visqueen painters dropcloth in my pocket. We made a dry shelter by sitting on it and wrapping it up behind us and over our heads. Worked great, and we stayed dry. I suggest bringing one for the show. They cost <$2 and are smaller than a pop can. Heck, bring a few and trade them for beers if it rains.

I once saw Pink Floyd at Clevland Municipal Stadium in a huge thunderstorm. It poured for most of the show, with copious lightning, and they didn't stop that one, either.

pink floyd in a thunderstorm might actually be pretty kick ***!

I figured I'd take a roll of plastic. I think I have some of those 99 cent emergency ponchos in my backpack too

I went to Lollapalooza back in 1995 during a massive rain storm, the stage is covered so the show goes on. The lawn seats turned into to a giant mud pit/slip n' slide. It was pretty wild.

Generally the promoter will do anything to keep the show going so refunds are not an issue and bands will usually do anything they can to continue because they want to get paid. As long as the stage is mostly dry and there aren't major issues like wind or lightning, usually the show goes on.

I hope his concert is over soon - there's a giant yellow cloud heading straight for Detroit.

It passed, it rained for 10 minutes, its all clear now. He should be fine.

Edit: just checked the weather, now there is a BIG red cloud on the radar headed our way.

Oh, it was. In that case, I think it added to the show. I drove by Comerica Park during the show, and I think you guys got dumped on pretty hard for a little while, didn't you? But then got to watch lightning for the rest of the night while staying dry. There was a giant rainbow and a beautiful sunset over Detroit last night.

Re: Outdoor concert in the rain?

update:
got through Ty Stone, and got 4 songs out of Sammy Hagar before it blew in. Sammy kicked ***, he's in great voice, so it's too bad the storm cut him short. They cleared us all out of the field and uncovered stands until the storm blew by. 45 minutes later, Kid Rock took the stage and tore the place down!
