Job interview schedule..... first, middle or last??

I got first shot at scheduling an interview for a major promotion within my organization. They are interviewing 8 people, in one-hour blocks throughout the day. I got first pick.

Which would you have picked, first, middle or last?

Why?

Last

1. let them go thru a bunch of losers first.

2. The next day when they are discussing it, the last interview will be the freshest in their minds.

bad advice. Most interviews i've gone to the empoyers take lots of notes so everything stays fresh if they like you. I prefer the mid bunch simply because its not the morning and their not wanting to go home yet.

As far as making an impresssion ... it doesn't matter to a good interviewer, if they are doing a pattern interview, they will have concise notes on each candidate as well as the hot buttons they touched.

That said, take the last slot. Everyone before you is going to be on a 1 hour leash. If you take the last hour, if you've impressed them enough, they have the luxery to extend the interview length, giving you more time to build a repore.

Last, I've interviewed hundreds of people, all the notes in the world won't help you remember personality unless you really truly stand out.. If you consider it to be a tough job to get, go for the last interview (unless you suck at interviewing)..

Honestly I would probably go somewhere in the beginning. Maybe not first, but close to there. The reason being that by the time they've reached the 8th candidate they might already have a favorite in mind and won't pay as much attention to you.

First. Set the bar high for everyone else. They will remember the first and last people. I think everything in the middle runs together.

Good luck.

Yep. I just read an article that said the first in the day or week was best. If you go early and make a good impression they will compare the rest to you. Thats what you want.
