gotta love californias traffic fines

so couple weeks back I got pulled over for no front plate. Also I guess the turbo timer and boost gauge sparked curiosity as to any illegal mods under the hood, so he checked, clear there. anyways he writes me up for no front plate, no biggie-fix it ticket, done it many times before. Gives me proof of insurance since my card is expired-again, got it before. then he throws in "advised of cvc 24004" which reads
Unlawful Operation After Notice by Officer

24004. No person shall operate any vehicle or combination of vehicles after notice by a peace officer, as defined in Section 830.1 or subdivision (a) of Section 830.2 of the Penal Code, that the vehicle is in an unsafe condition or is not equipped as required by this code, except as may be necessary to return the vehicle or combination of vehicles to the residence or place of business of the owner or driver or to a garage, until the vehicle and its equipment have been made to conform with the requirements of this code.

The provisions of this section shall not apply to an employee who does not know that such notice has been issued, and in such event the provisions of Section 40001 shall be applicable.
pretty much if I get pulled over and cited again for the front plate and the officer does some digging around my info and sees ive been advised of 24004 I will be ticketed again and it goes down as a point on my record.

but anyways since this is a fix it ticket I will get it signed off and no big deal, but my letter from the court came today and the "bail amount/fine" which Im assuming is what Id pay if it wasnt correctable is $978 good god all that for a no front plate? I cant imagine the steepness for something more severe

paying off californias debt, one ticket at a time

Yup. I honestly believe that California's debt is forcing the hand with law enforcement. In the past year or two, I've noticed more and more CHP's out and more cops pulling people over.

Hell, in the same time frame, my girl has been pulled over for no front plates, failure to make a full & complete stop (she did one of those 1 second stops, but still came to a stop) and just last week, pulled over for front window tint.

Thankfully my little DD-Civic seems to fly under the radar

Just pick up a late 80's junker with 300k on it, there will be plenty of smoke without the seafoam.

Isn't the 2004 thing for driving around with no valid car insurance? You're lucky you didn't get your car towed to the impound lot.

Actually CA DMV code doesn't require you to have a front plate. It only requires you to display a front plate IF 2 plates were issued to you. Now the DMV IS required to issue 2 plates.

For a $1000 fine I would take it to court and have them prove the DMV issued me 2 plates.

It's a $5,000 fine in Ontario for driving with no insurance......Meanwhile Texas and California have 25% uninsured drivers on the road.

Good luck with that. Judges here wouldn't take it.

FWIW, I've never heard of anyone getting thrown down for 24004, and I work with some guys that write everything they can.
