Actually, the real loser is the guy who bought/buys a Pontiac. I bought an '04 Buick Rainier which was a gussied up Olds Bravada. GM dropped Olds; Buick dropped the Rainier and the resale of my Rainier dropped like a stone.

You can/would be a loser, depending on what your intentions are with the vehicle. I drive mine until they aren't worth anything, so a great deal is a great deal.

My question is what does this do to "collector" cars? Not so much the 4th gens, but what about old school GTO's and 1st and 2nd gen Firebird/Trans Ams? Those vehicles aren't supported by the manufacturer anymore anyway, so does this increase or decrease the value?

They are just he upscale version of Chevy trucks and SUV's. Doesn't seem that hard to understand. GM was making a killing off of trucks/suv's back in the day and they saw the opportunity.

Usually GMC's offer a few more options than Chevys, so they make a few more dollars on them.

On the other hand, aren't those platforms basically at the end of their life-cycle anyways?

The first time I ever took an interest in cars was my dad's Bonneville SSE. Sure it wasn't the best car ever but it had plenty of go and I happened to be at that impressionable age. RIP Pontiac

wat i said has nothing to do with the 5thgen.

new camaro is def different than the gto.

gto they put a gto badge on a relatively unchanged holden monaro (sp)

new camaro they redesigned and rebuilt.

slapping a nova or vega or whatever name on a solstice/sky would be the same as the gto/monaro.

Yeah I am curious how mine will be affected, I can't be too upset, I planned on driving this thing into the ground, and beyond. I think I haggled an extra couple hundred off the price because I kept telling them, I didn't want to end up upside down(which after 1.5 years, still not yet, but todays news might change that)

They kep asking, all cars you will be upside down but I mentioned yeah, its a pontiac and will have **** reslae, I know, you know, you sell them. and they moved on the price.

I don't know why they would bother keeping GMC over Pontiac. Like I understand Buick (sells well over in Asia) and to a certain degree Cadillac, but in the current market is GMC really doing THAT well that they would keep it over Pontiac? Especially with CAFE you'd think they'd be running from duplicate trucks like the plague. Someone care to elaborate?

I'd also like to add that it's a damn shame they didn't get to make the 5th gen Firebird/Trans Am concept into reality. IMHO It had a lot of potential. Hell, I'm not even interested in getting another car and I would have been all over it, that S.O.B. looked mean.

I am sure that GM knows what they are doing.

I wish them the best.

My point was that the 5th gen Camaro is no more related to any other Camaro than a rebadged Solstice would be related to whatever classic name it might get slapped with.

I agree, but don't feel confident that the first sentence is true .

I'm pretty positive that they have no idea what they're doing, and the current state of the company is a fairly obvious display of that. Why the blind faith?

I'm sure the statement was sarcastic. I can't see how anybody could honestly believe that GM knows what theyre doing after what we've all witnessed over the last few years. I'm extremely interested in how GM and the auto industry as a whole will rebuild in the next 5 to 10 years. We're in for some very interesting times.
