certificates?

Is there some type of exam I can take to get a certificate in HTML, CSS, XML, etc.. - basically web design? I don't think there is but I figured I'd ask you guys. maybe something similar, just to make me stand out when I start looking for jobs?

found:
CIW, Microsoft Certified Technology Specialists & Microsoft Certified Professional Developers.

I don't know if I'm going on the wrong track here...

A good portfolio means FAR FAR more then a certificate in web design.

oh I know, I was just sitting here thinking of ways I could set myself apart. but yes a portfolio would set me apart if it was really good.

When I hire a web designer I really couldn't care less of what certifications they have. All I want to see is past work. If someone sent me a list of all the made up certificates they have gotten I would skip over them.

lol.

so question to you( xride), when you say past work, does it matter if it was done for actual clients or are you just looking for the quality of work done...?

The designer I use most often made a site for himself that is really nothing more then him showing what he can do. Don't bother with things everyone and their dog does, unique and interesting things.

I don't care what the client was, I just want to make sure that it is quality work. One thing about client work is that often times its the one paying the bill that limits what the designer can do, so try not to use those ones.
