I don't have any experience with Ipod headphone amps. However, are you sure you need one? Sometimes switching to headphones with better sensitivity will do the trick.

Fiio gets a pretty consistent nod from head-fi.org:

Amp: http://www.amazon.com/Fiio-E6-Headph...9170120&sr=8-2

Line out for iPod: http://www.amazon.com/FiiO-L9-L-Shap...9170120&sr=8-4

I've been thinking about picking up one of their USB DAC + Amp to listen to music at work to get better sound out of my laptop.

CMoy amps are supposed to be very good, but you need to build your own. I may try one. In case that's an option you are interested:

People sell pre-made ones on eBay if you don't want to make your own. It's about the same price as a Fiio though so personally I'd rather have a professionally made unit than something some dude on eBay made. It'd be cool to make my own, but I don't have that kind of time/motivation at this point.

I have already tried the better headphone/earphone thing the ipods just don't have the juice to do it.

I haver a pair of $80 Klpsch and a $60 pair of Sonys (earphones) and they both have beautiful sound. The Sony's acutally have better sound than the Klpsch

My son has a pair of VMODA over ear headphones not they are the greatest but they are OK too.

Get a set of custom molded ear phones. cant live with out mine. block out exterior noise better than non custom, so you can lower the volume.

Schiit's stuff is pretty expensive though (starts at $249) and it's not portable. It's a great option for listening at work or at home, but you can't take it with you.

Re: anyone use a headphone amplifier (ipod)

I got it on Saturday, played around with it on my Ipod touch it makes the music sound more full, you can definitely hear a difference with it compared to just the headphones. I listen to mostly rock, the bass on it is good, you can hear the guitars and vocals more defined with it. The rap songs I do have, sound great on it too.

I took it to the gym today, even though its small, it is a bit cumbersome in my pocket with the ipod and cable. I'm going to pick up some velcro or something to attach it to the back. Other than that it is great, I haven't figure out the different frequency yet. I just turned it on, and it sounds great. battery last pretty long.

I do recommend this....
