I have been looking at Amazon GPS sales, ther is a TomTom 1535TM for $119 , a TomTom 540TM for $99 , Tom Tom 540S for $89, a Nuvi 1350LMY for $118,
I don't need all ths bells and whistles, just a basic one for traveling.

Garmin. (Nuvi)

I've had Garmin and TomTom, and much prefer the Garmin.

I don't find traffic useful. I know where and when traffic is locally, and don't care about it when I'm travelling. If I'm passing through an unfamiliar city I'd rather just stay on the main route and crawl through traffic than try to go around. Actually, if I'm passing through a city with heavy traffic, I usually pull off to grab a bite to eat.

I played with a TomTom and a Garmin in the store and much preferred the Garmin. The TomTom virtual keyboard was very klunky/laggy and not as precise. They were within $20 of eachother, so it's not like the Garmin was a much nicer model or anything.

Guy at work just got a Tom Tom with voice recognition, and that is pretty neat.

Re: ? about GPS units

I just bought a Tomtom EASE from Walmart to throw into the gift pile for Christmas, because I know someone in my family would love a basic GPS unit. $55, new.

Re: ? about GPS units

I've had a couple of Garmins and have been happy with them. They're not the latest or greatest and have outdated maps but have gotten me where I need to go without any issues.
