Help me get below 90db.

Crazy question isn't it? Our rules are changing to require a 90db test every year. The catch is that you cannot be over that at half of redline (2900 RPM)! Right now I am running Edelbrock shorties, no cat, and a 3" flowmaster catback. It is pretty obvious to me that this will not pass. I plan on putting v-band clamps on the section of pipe that previously housed a cat. This will allow me to quickly remove and install another section of pipe with some sort of silencer built into it. What pipe restriction would you suggest to temporarily install that will get me below 90 db at 2900 RPM? A cat...another muffler...a sock....

A Corsa catback. It'll flow better than your Flowmaster setup, and it's pretty quiet.

Keep in mind that I just want a temporary fix. I don't really want to get rid of my flowmaster because believe it or not I love the way it sounds.

From my research 90 db is about the volume of a lawnmower if that helps.

Yeah, I love the sound of a Flowmaster too... I just can't get past the fact that it's been shown to lose horsepower over the stock Z28 exhaust.

Corsa, Magnaflow, and Borla all sound great, and flow great. Dynomax flows great too. I haven't heard it, so I can't tell you how it sounds.

If you're really stuck on your Flowmasters, you could get silencers to put in the exhaust tips. I'm not sure exactly how they work or where to get them, but I've seen them before. A friend of mine autocrosses a WRX, and when he's racing on a track with noise regulations, he puts in his silencer and the car drops like 20db.

How loud would you say your car is now?

Thanks JakeRobb. That is one thing I am looking into. I cannot find them anywhere. I still think it would be easier to have a pipe that I can easily swap in with some sort of silencer using the v-band clamps. I just don't know what.

69z-28, you are right that is pretty stupid. That is why I wasn't looking to do that.
