headers

Anyone know if someone makes a header that is shorty or mid length with a 3" collector and the egr hook ups?

Re: headers

SLP, Edelbrock, MAC, BBK, etc.

The collector size is kind of moot, as shorties/mids have their own y-pipe which is designed to mate to the stock exhaust.

I'd go with the MACs personally.

Re: headers

Just be prepared to drive around with an open y-pipe if it doesn't mate up perfectly, so you can drive to an exhaust shop and have it welded.

Do you mean to agree with him that they collector size is 3" as the only headers I've seen 3" collectors on is LT's? My RK sports (ASM copies) were wayyyy better then my previous JBA mids and the nice thing about RK's or ASM's is they are the only mid for LT1s out there that has the larger primaries at 1-3/4 primaries vs 1-5/8 for pretty much everyone else out there including MAC. As stated don't worry about the collector size as you can always have a custom Y built that flares or expands to 3" and mates up perfectly to your catback system (this is what I did).

Re: headers

I meant that the collector diameter on shorties doesn't make a difference because they use their own y-pipe.

The collector size and length makes a huge difference on a shorty header. Mine is 3" x 20" for a total length about 32". The 17 rwhp and 16 tq gain is longtube territory and you won't see that with a 2 1/2" collector.

Re: headers

Ugh...you guys aren't understanding me.

The OP asked about the collector diameter because his intermediate pipe is 3" in diameter. He assumed that the collector diameter corresponded to the diameter of the intermediate pipe, when it doesn't. I said it doesn't matter because the collectors on the shorties don't MATE to the intermediate pipe, because they use their own y-pipe. I didn't say anything about horsepower/torque or length or anything of that nature. I'm talking about PHYSICALLY mating everything together.

Get it?

Correct that is why aftermarket cat back systems are 3" slipfit design or the buick ball joint.

I bought mine used and recoated and got a great deal, plus all the emissions fittings were removed and welded before coating. Here is a couple places:

RKs: (They are exact copys of the originals from ASM - Arizona Speed and Marine and some people say they are cheap but the welding on mine is very high quality):

http://fasttoys.net/shop/product_inf...6a995e059b2d00

ASMs: (These are the originals and as you can see they are quite pricey, but excellent headers)

Do you know if they make RKs or ASMs mids for a 96 z28( dual cat). I couldn't find them on that site. If not what are my other options for Mid-length headers on a dual cat z28?.. thanks
