Well, I finally got my '94 Z28. Wow. First camaro I've owned and I really wasn't ready for the ***** it has.

So which one should I do. Emissions isn't a problem. Will my O2 sensor go whack if I replace the cat with the cutout?

Will it be ridiculously loud if I put it in place of the cat?

 

your o2 sensors are before the cat, so therefor will not be effected.
i would replace the cat with the cutout personally, i like the tone of a non-catted car

 

It won't make a big difference either way. The only thing is that you may have more interior drone and vibrations if you have the cutout mounted in place of the catalytic converter.

I'd recommend putting the cutout further back at the axle and getting rid of the cat with a straight pipe.

 

I asked the same question on either here or LS1tech.com. THey told me that if the cutout is too close to the O2 sensor it can throw the reading off. THe o2 will sense more air than is actual in the exh output. -Crapping out your fuel mileage and performance. I'd say put it about 6" down from where the cat is now.

Do they have dual o2's on LT1's? If so, you'll have to get O2 sims to trick your computer to think the cats are fine and working.

 

The 96-97s had dual cats, since he has a 94, he has a single cat car. If he does put the cutout in the place of the cat, it will be spaced a good amount away from the 02 sensors.

I had a question about putting a cutout in place of the cats a few weeks ago and am still wondering if I have the stock headers and y and it looks like the cat has a more oval shaped end on it that connects to the y if the cutout will still mount up to it.

 

Mine is just before the axle. I think it is there (previous owner put it on) because going down the road... you will have some of the exhaust gases come into the interior depending on where it is at... this is what I was told. I do notice the smell sometimes though.. just drive with the vent on.

 

My advice to anyone with a single cat fbody is to place the cutout where the cat is. With the cutout in place of the cat you can run an open ypipe at the track. This is the setup I have on my '94. Not only does it sound badass but I consistently trap 1-2 mph higher in the 1/4. I have it fabbed up so I can remove the cutout and put my cat back in when I'm done racing. It's probably not as effective as running longtubes but it's better than nothing.
