96 SS SLP 2OTS exhaust too loud - Cheap solution?
96 SS SLP 2OTS exhaust too loud - Cheap solution?
My 96 SS Convertible has the original SLP 2OTS catback behind Pacesetter long tubes and Y pipe. Engine is upgraded too. Overall it's making too much noise. It's overkill for me, senseless chaos coming out the exhaust whenever I touch the gas pedal.
I need a cheap easy solution to silence the chaos and leave the clean V8 sound it should be making. What can be done?
I've asked SLP and they say there are no more 2OTS mufflers. Mine is probably burned inside it acts like a resonating chamber.
Help?

Such a bummer.
I'd probably just throw a resonator or high flow cat on it, but then again I love the sound of the SLP 2OTL. I'm not sure what other catbacks are quieter than the 2otl and flow equally or better. The 2OTL is relatively quiet for how well it flows. It looks like SLP still sells the dual/dual (2.5in, dual 2.5 out) that could be fabbed up but you'd be choking the exhaust down to 2.5" before the muffler vs. 3" with the 2OTL which would make it quieter and hurt exhaust flow.
I'm in the process of swapping out my shortys to Pacesetter LT's.. but I want a little more grumble.

Looks like people have many solutions to make a Camaro louder but there are much fewer to make it more silent
I could try to get a hold of a stock exhaust but that's sortof illogical
On the other hand it's making more noise than I can accept. I've heard only ferraris and lambos make as much or more noise while cruising on the street.
Guess I'm stuck with it for the time being...

flexus:
A bullet muffler like this ( http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-630820/ 3" I-O ,4" OD ,24" length ) should fit in the drive-shaft tunnel by cutting a piece out of an aftermarket 3" I-pipe. I wonder how much noise relief it provides? Is it worth doing?

I have considered this but it seems the exhaust is pretty close to the driveshaft... .5" should fit though I guess...
Anyone tried installing one of these, do they help with noise?

This actually sounds like a great idea! This might work! I never heard of stuff like this before. I'll give them a call and see what they recommend for my application.
I'll try to install it in the Y-pipe maybe, or on the section after that.
If this works it's exactly what I needed - something that reduces noise, is cheap, will not require heavy modifications and won't kill my power.
Thanks!

A tube that's necked down to about 2" as it enters the muffler.
