why is my car not shifting right at WOT?
hey guys, i just got a set of longtubes and y pipe for my car and i went out to run one of my friends last night with a 97 z28 to see how the imrovements were. we ran twice from a dig and everytime my car would get up to like 5k it would almost sound like its hitting the rev limiter or something (my car was in OD). it did it going into 2nd and 3rd both times. i started to think it might be ignition but my new opti of last year has 7k miles on it, and i just got brand new ac delco plugs and wires when i had headers installed. it seems like the same thing has happened before but has been a couple years. whats the deal? one of my friends said it could be the tranny. btw, it shifts just like normal during daily driving....it only hesitated around 5k or so.. could it be my fuel pump maybe?? i just read an article in GMHTP about an LT1 car losing power in WOT due to fuel pump, which was replaced by a new Racetronix pump.

More then likely your tranny is on its way out the door. Take it to a tranny shop. Most do free estimates. CHeck the fluid also. If looks burnt then more then likely your going to need a rebuild. I had the same issue with mine and then one day BAM it was dead all together.

Tranny is likely slipping.
Dial back the shift point a bit and raise the rev limiter a bit then quit racing everything you see and you'll probably be able to go quite a while with it while you save your money for the 6 speed swap.
At least that is what I did.
I got 2 more years of summer fun out of it.

Yeah the old upper rpm slip...lol. My only flag I see that crosses me is that you say its at like 5000 rpm, no where near the rev limiter. If your valvetrain is in good order a lean miss or ign related mis is realy about the only options.

The more that thing slips the sooner it will me toast. So don't let the motor get near the limiter because it will start bouncing off the limiter putting even more strain on an already weak tranny.
If you've ever heard a 4 cyl. Honda bouncing offf it's rev limiter you'll understand.

i dont think its his trans guys like i said mine is doing close to the same and i know my 300 mile pro built 4l60e aint going. before you go get a rebuild and end up with the same problem get a fuel pressure gauge on there tape it to the windshield and go hammer it if it drops below 40 psi get a new pump or add a booster

It could have got bumped or something, it was a Bitch getting mine setup right, and yes I have a 700R4 in my 94, but I put it there, it was a 6 speed.
