When running a non lock up converter....

When running a non lock up converter do you have to make any internal changes to the transmission (this would be in my 4l60-e)? Does it shorten the life of your transmission? Are there any adverse side effects of running one other than fuel economy? Thanks in advance.

Re: When running a non lock up converter....

Yes, there is a lock up valve in the front pump, it needs to be changed out with an aftermarket specific one(accessible thru the pan)..dareyll young products has them, also the check ball in the input shaft needs to be removed. Without a lock-up converter the trans will run a touch warmer the coverter will always have at least a thrundred rpm slip ..thus heating the fluid and probably shorting the life of the trans somewhat.
