What torque converter to get?
 

Sup guys, my mods are in my sig. I would like to get a TC but not sure what one to get. I drive it on sunny days and about 20 times a year at the track. I would like to spend around the 500 dollar range. What would be a good tc and what str do i want to go with.

the others ive seen,yank and vig. ect are going somewhere in the $900 range.if you dont drive your car daily id get a major stall though.:D

TCI SSF3500 is a geat verter. Texas Speed & Performance sells them for $479.

The guys at LS1tech have been raving on this converter for a few months now. It's a 3500 stall with a STR of 2.5 so it does hit hard. Gains over stock are usually in the .6 range so you'll be very happy on track days but you'll need at least Drag Radials to make use of any 3000+ stall torque converter.

Right now Midwest seems to be the best bang-for-the-buck convertors. I would suggest a 3600 with a 2.2 str. It should be under $500. You will love the increase with any brand convertor and should be in the 12s. Don't be too conservative when buying. Most people that buy the smaller stalls end up having to buy a bigger stall. Find someone in your area that has a decent sized convertor and see if he will take you for a ride or possibly even drive his car to see what its like. I've had two Yanks, one Vigilante and two TCS convertors from 2800 to 4200 stall so I am speaking from experience.

The stall depends on how much duration the camshaft has at .050" lift, the lobe centerlines, rear end gear ratio, and how you drive, conservatively, moderately, or aggressively. If you are conservative, you will not like a very high stall, if on the other hand, you are moderate to aggressive, you will llike a higher stall.
