What to get first

3.73's or 4.10's- im thinkin 4.10s i never generaly have a reason to go over 115 or what ever the auto will top at, or a B&M Hole shot 3K stall with transmission cooler, or a zenith 27" HDTV?

Between gears or stall converter what will be a bigger bang for the buck

A stall will rule a gear change if it's right for the power band of the motor..

in my opinion 4.10s are too much for auto cars. i have 2 friends that have them in A4s.....one blew up 2 rears and cant go faster than 112 mph (you may not have a reason to go over this speed but i trap 111 with a stock engine so you can see you'll eventually run out of gear when you start going faster....plus gas mileage SUCKS and you'll wear stuff faster since the motor/drivetrain are always spinning like crazy) and the other hated them so much he took them out after a month and swapped in 3.42s....

also, just something to think about, i've heard bad things about holeshot converters...go with a TCI, vigilante or Yank. they are more expensive but definitely better quality.

also, the converter will give you bigger gains without a doubt (assuming you do get a 3000+ stall).

Rkrause said you would still be able to run 125 if you wanted too, i dont think you will top out an a4 at 112, maybe if we had the old 4 speeds with 4.56 gears like the ls6 chevelle sure, but i dont think i buy into only going 112. what i read the biggest complaint is gas, the next is concerning both 4.10's and 3.73's saying they dont drop as many gears. Unless you only meant 112 in 1/4 mile which that doesnt matter im never at one!

your not counting converter slip. you would be able to go 125 assuming u had NO slip (like a stick). the converter is going to eat some of those revs and run you to redline a little quicker. maybe its a few mph more than 112 (his speedo could be a little off i guess) but its not gonna be all the way to 125. RSKrause mentioned that.

Gears may get you .2 or .3, stall will get you closer to a .5 off if you have the tires for it.

I am not sure what you are asking? If there is no speed limiter set in the PCM, your top speed will be limited by the rev limit and the amount of hp you have available. In the case of an A4 with a 26" tire, 6,000rpm would be 178mph in 4th gear with 3.73's and 162mph with 4.10's. Subtract a few mph for converter slip. But you still need the power to go that fast.

Thats what Rkrause said to me in a differnt post.

mathematically thats correct. however automatic transmissions slip, thus wasting some of the power. i can tell you right now you will NOT get near 162 mph...there is wind resistance, rolling resistance, weight, transmission slippage. all the calculator does is tell you theoretically how fast you could go based purely on your gear ratios.

like i said i had 2 friends with 4.10 geared A4 LT1s....one said he could do almost 120 before running out of gear and one said they could do 112-115..... in either case 162 is out of the question. the more power you put through the drivetrain the more of it is going to be lost to slippage. besides LS1 f-bodies are electronically limited to 162 mph anyway regardless of gearing. there is a fuel cut-off programmed in. LT1s have one at around 155 or 157 or so i believe.

We need to get Rkrause to chime in on this topic. I have heard nothing but good this about 4.10s in A4s.
