2000 SS M6 basic bolt ons

getting strange 12 bolt w/ 4.10s

Have a few questions...

1) Will a stock 10 bolt driveshaft fit in w/ my new Strange rear?

2) Do you suggest buying a new driveshaft or try to find one at a junkyard

3) If you suggest buying a new one, should I go with a OEM alluminum or maybe a aftermarket carbon fiber one.

4) What about having one made? I have the end pieces still from my old driveshaft and was thinking about getting one made (although it was from my stock 10 bolt, question 1)

Yes, most people, including myself are able to use a stock length driveshaft. If you use a stock driveshaft, you'll have to change the rear u-joint to mate with the 12 bolt. I have a Lingenfelter 3.5" driveshaft and it's a little cheaper than the Denny's and is aluminum. Depending on what kind of power you plan on having will determine what kind of shaft you will need.

 

I'm in the same boat, i have a Stragne 12-Bolt and have the stock driveshaft. Although i didn't know what kind of u-joints to get when i needed replacements so i just bought stock ones and the seem to work fine. So far no problems with them. With 4.10's i was told that it would be beneficial to get an alluminum one. If you want to have more power though you might want to think about strength of the driveshaft as opposed to weight. The Strange comes with the adapter U-joint that's needed to use the stock DS.

Personally, I went with a Denny's Nitrous Ready DS when I put my 12-bolt in the car, do it right the first time instead of paying 2-3X the amount to do it over again.

And as far as aftermarket CF shafts go, 99.99999% of them are crap unless you're going to spend a crap-load; the Denny's NR shafts run about $400 and have a lifetime breakage guarentee.
