Weird TransAm Factory Gears&Does anyone use 4.30's?
Hey Im fairly new to the boards and have a couple of questions:
1-Does anyone use 4.30 gears with an A4?? Any info would be great ie traction, videos, times, etc 2-My 1995 Performace Package TransAm has an A4 but when I removed the old gears they were 3.42's this is the first time the rear end has been opened, I thought 3.23 (?) were availabe and the 3.42's were only for 6 speeds? I do have a 95 camaro m6 with confirmed 3.42's btw. |
That's a whole lotta gear for a fairly stock A4 LT1.
We also have a triple white 95 TA, don't see too many of those. |
I love the triple whites, do you have any production numbers? oh and any ideas on cleaning the top?
|
someone obviously swapped rear ends...or at least gears.
or did you buy it new? cause that would be strange...VERY strange. 4.30s would be rediculous on anything shy of a fully built race car. with a 6000rpm rev limiter, you'll be hitting overdrive at the end of the track...or darn close to it. compared to 3.42 where you'd be in the middle of 3rd with plenty of room to run. would be fun on the street if you could hook up. |
The sweet spot for a stockish A4 car is a 3.73:1 rear gear. 3.42 will be fun too, and you'll get better gas mileage.

We just use soap and water on our top, and still looks pretty good. |
Yeah, the previous owner was my father, no this was the stock rear end, thats why I was so surprised. And 4.30s I decided to go with I wanted a pull or no traction, the TransAm will not be a daily.

Oh and Im superchargin my t/a I was told this was a cam meant for a nitrous/blower combo.
|
anyone else?
|
Good luck with that setup, LOL.
|
How is that, you know 4.30s would be fun, I really dont care if the driveability goes to ****, I have another 95 vert....daily 6 speed z28 any day over an 95 Vert A4 T/a

What was the tooth count on the ring and pinion?
|
I will have to check tomorrow.
|
If you didn't count the teeth, how did you determine they were 3.42 gears?
Was the speedo accurate in the car? Did you check the PCM to see what rear axle ratio it was calibrated for? |
Back in 1995, I was able to special order my rear with GM 3:42 gears for my T/A A4. Basically, all it was, was the "performance axle" option that came with the M6's.
