Question Vibrating Mount

My friend and I installed an Energy Suspension trans. mount this morning. Everything went in there correctly and every bolt is in there as tight as it can possibly be. At idle and around town, it seems to be that the trans. is vibrating and at about 1/2-3/4 throttle while going through the gears, it REALLY vibrates. As far as I know, we did everything right, but I just can't understand why this new part is vibrating my car.

Re: Vibrating Mount

Re: Vibrating Mount

Look At The New Mount. They Are 1/2 Inch Taller Then Stock . Shim Down The Trans Crossmember And Vibrtation Will Go Away. You Changed The Pinion Angle When Installing The New Mount.

Re: Vibrating Mount

It's not 1/2" taller?! "Maybe" ~1/8" thicker, but that's really because of the plate they give you to put behind the mount. Some guys have said that by NOT installing the plate with the mount, it'll change the installed height enough to eliminate most of that vibration. I finally got fed up with it in my car and put back the stock LS1 mount.

Also, NOTE: the factory LT1 and LS1 mounts are different from each other. I saw the one that came out of my friend's '97 (LT1). It was junk, and only had ~65k on it? Mine (LS1) has less mileage, yes, but it still looks and feels (solid) like brand new. There's also not the huge "empty hole" in the LS1 mount that the LT1's have.

My point? If you're looking to upgrade/replace your LT1 mount, but don't want excessive vibration in your car, try the LS1 mount. IMO, it's a good compromise.

Re: Vibrating Mount

^Agreed. I've been running the LS1 mount for about 6-7 months with no issues, and A LOT less vibrations compared to the poly.

That's crazy.

I bet when a lot of guys bought this mount from Energy Suspension, they were never under the impression that they had to shim stuff down or expect MORE vibrations than when the factory mount was broken. This part should have been made very similar to the stock one. Energy Suspension must know what this part was going to do, yet they don't include any disclaimers in their installation instructions.

IMO, it's just the "nature of the beast". I mean, you're taking out a relatively "soft" piece of rubber, and putting in its place a fairly "hard" chunk of poly-urethane ... try putting in a solid mount and see what happens! Any time you add "performance" to a car, you typically take away its "comfort".

Re: Vibrating Mount

Sorry Guys Im Talking About Lt1 Mount. Energy Suspension Does Not Make One For Lt1 Only Prothane. I Have Ordered Two Thought My First Was Made Wrong Both Are 1/2 Taller If You Goto Their Sight It States And Instructions Included With Mount 1/2 Inch Taller May Need To Be Shimed.

Re: Vibrating Mount

Another vote for the LS1 mount. I've used it for almost 2 years and it is far better than the LT1, without a noticeable increase in vibes.

Re: Vibrating Mount

Will an Ls1 mount bolt directly to A4 in an Lt1? I've had a few people tell me that you have to modify it to fit properly.

Shouldn't have to . 2 bolts hold the mount to the tranny, 1 stud sticks through the cross-member. Don't know where/what would need modifying?!

im not really sure , someone else can chime in

but many ppl on this board have removed this plate and have not had any problems, i wouldnt have removed mine if it wasnt for ppl on here telling me to just take it out its not needed. I no longer have any vibrations while accelerating, and no problems
