Transmission grinding
I was driving my (m6) car the other night and I went to down shift from 6th to 5th, and unfortunately I hit 3rd for a quick second. The car chirped and I quickly hit the clutch and shifted back into 6th. Now I notice (only when I down shift), in mid range RPM the car makes a slight grinding nose and I can feel it in the shifter, but up shifts just fine with no noise. What am I looking at here?

Re: Transmission grinding
My guess is that you probably messed up a syncro and or blocker ring.

Re: Transmission grinding
Synchro stop ring for that particular gear. Rest of the synchro is more than likely fine. downshifting you are making the stop ring work a bit harder to bring that lower gear up to speed.

Re: Transmission grinding
So is it ok to still drive if I just don't downshift to much?
