trans questions

ok here is my question. I have a 98 Trans Am Ls1/4L60E combo. A week or so, after installing a b&m shift improver kit (big mistake) one of the accumulator pistons came out of the bore in the case too far, cocked going back in, and ruined the bore. I also have a 1987 Formula 350TPI/700r4 combo, that i am restoring. Now could i take the 700r4 case, put the 4l60E internals into it, and avoid having to buy a new transmission? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

well you can pysicly change the guts but the 700 Wont work well in your 98

I take it you messed up the 4th ACCu bore in the case?

I will have to check I think Sonnax makes a kit to fix it.

BTW installing a shift kit in your car will **** off the PCM and kick in TQ Managment

That would be great if that place makes a kit to fix that, if you could find that out, i would most appreciative. I am not sure what acc. it is. Ok there is the accumulator housing, held in by 3 bolts below the valve body separator plate, right directly above that, is the one i screwed up (above the separator plate). Also, the actual accumulator piston itself, broke into pieces, and there was black sooty looking stuff all over the bottom of the pan, and the fluid was nearly black (just put new fluid in, with shift kit, less then a week before this happened) It began slipping near the end as well, so i am pretty sure its smoked anyways. Does anyone know where i can get a decent deal on a built 4l60E? I want something that is streetable for daily driving, but will hold up to say a LS6 conversion, or something around 400-430 ponies. I aslo thought about adding a mild stall converter when i do this repair, maybe 2400 or so, any help would be greately appreciated.

yup sound like she is toast.

Mail order has some huge draw backs(like shipping, if it breaks you pay BOTH ways)

I would find a local shop you can trust. ask around

Good luck!

Usually in any decent sized city there is always one or more good tranny builders with great reputations.
In KC it is A&A transmissions in Independence. I checked with alot of people about tranny rebuilds and their name kept popping up.
I had them do a performance rebuild on my 4L60E and they charged me 750 carryout.
I love this tranny.
So check around there is bound to be a good tranny builder somewhere local to you.
